The French are terrible. They drink wine, cheese and have never had a Frenchman seek asylum in another European country. The Brits, on the other hand, are far more civil. The Brits undertake civil obedience and have actually had people flee the country and seek political asylum in another European country. The great result is that the Brits have actually achieved nothing more than remain feudal, other than obtain the reputation as great lazy whiners. Aren't the Brits great?
I have lived in both countries and respect the French, they at least stand up for their rights and fight for them. The Brits, on the other hand, are like sheep; they make great food but I have no respect for them otherwise.
Putting embarrassing ignorance and truth aside the simple truth of the matter is that none of these fishermen have ever thought of trading their boats in for fish farms. The EU should impose even harsher quota's on these people as their industry is a waste of money and time, why have boats when farms are far more efficient? The fact that these people cling to archaic forms of money making doesn't mean that the seas should be emptied but you tell politicians that. Stupidity, greed and short sightedness rule their policies.

Originally by: Onus Mian You know what they feed the fish in fish farms? Fish caught at sea so there goes that arguement. Fish farms also mess up coastal waters.
Why don't you come tell the fish farmers that live 15 metres from my house? These people feed their fishes nothing, the fish eat what grows in the water. Also these fish are grown in sweet water that does not affect coast lines. Have you ever read anything about these farms?
Originally by: Onus Mian You make some good points but from my perspective the environment has priority over jobs.
Every single person on this planet can be employed somehow in some industry. For example the logging industry. We can chop down every single tree on this planet and everyone will have a job. But before you do that go to the countries that have been entirely deforested and ask the people how their lives are. Also what air are you going to breathe when there're no trees?
People who believe that this outdated lifestyle should continue (fishery) should be locked in a vault for a few hours to see what the world will be like once we've entirely cleared it of life.
The environment does, indeed, take presedence over jobs or profit. If it didn't we'd kill ourselves in a few years and right now the greatest threat to humanity is environmental terrorism and that is man itself.

Who won the Vietnam war again? According to quite a few US school books it was the US and that just shows much of a inferiority complex the US has. It has to blatantly lie in school books to make itself look better.
WWII was lost at Stalingrad. Germany was in retreat for more than two years before Normandy and who gave the US its independence? Wasn't that the biggest mistake the French made?
So, in short, what has the US achieved in 50 years? Invading, plundering and destroying other countries just to please corporations all the while bankrupting yourself has been the greatest achievement.
The truth hurts doesn't it Ameritard? Now stfu and gtfo.

Proof that there is more than enough fish in the sea... for another few years.
Quote: Eighty-eight percent of EU stocks are fished beyond their maximum sustainable yield - the highest catch that can be maintained over an indefinite period - and for some, such as North Sea cod, the vast majority of fish are caught before they have reproduced.
Quote: # differentiating between the rights of small-scale community-based coastal fishing boats and large industrial concerns
As we can see the problem isn't the fishing, it's the greed of large firms who are, as always, only after short term profits because they're too ******ed to realise that the concept of 'profit above all' is unsustainable and because governments are backwards and only care about themselves.
